With a population over 200,000 and an metro area of over a half million, Boise, the capital of Idaho, is the third largest city in the Northwest.

The town was named for the Boise Valley, a term given by early trappers derived from the French word for woods. Boise has an American pronunciation of either BOY-zee or BOY-see.

The town sites on Interstate 84 and sits half way between the high peaks of the Sawtooth Mountains in Central Idaho and the deep canyons of the Snake River.
