This gallery includes images from the Lake Blanche trail. The trail provides views of Lake Blanche, Lake Florence, Lilian Lake as well as Dromedary and Sundial Peak (10,320 ft.) I took these pictures on May 15, 2007.
The Lake Blanche Trail is a popular hike in Big Cottonwood Canyon in the Wasatch Mountains. The hike is a six an a half mile round trip. The trail starts at the Mill B Pinic Area just below the S turn. The trailhead is 6,320 feet in elevation. The trail gains 2700 feet to reach Lake Blanche with an elevation of 8,900 feet. From Lake Blanche, you can climb to the summit of Sundial Peak, Dromedory Peak or Mount Superior.
The topographic map calls the drainage area Mill B South Fork. People tend to call the trail the Lake Blanche Trail and the creek the Lake Blanche Fork. The Mill B North Fork drains the Southern slopes of the Mount Olympus Wilderness area.
As the trail gains 2700 feet, your hike will bring you through a variety of ecosystems including shrub oak, pine and aspen forests. Lake Blanche itself provides an intriguing assortment of alpine vegetation.
As this is part of the Salt Lake Water Supply, the canyon is closed to dogs. I took this set of pictures on May 15, 2007.
